SMS Text Messaging

E3 Aviation Association operates an SMS text messaging notification service for the E3 Sky Path platform (the “SMS Program”).

Information collected for the SMS Program:

  • Mobile phone number
  • SMS opt-in consent (timestamp, IP address, opt-in method)
  • SMS delivery status and engagement metrics (delivered, failed, opt-out events)

How SMS information is used:

We use your mobile phone number exclusively to deliver SMS notifications related to your E3 Sky Path account, including lesson schedule confirmations, weather-related schedule disruptions, compliance and certification expiration alerts, billing notifications, training milestone notifications, and emergency communications related to flight operations. The SMS Program is operational and transactional in nature; we do NOT send marketing or promotional SMS messages.

Sharing of SMS information:

Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in consent data are NOT shared with any third party, affiliate, or partner for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers and SMS opt-in information will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties for their own promotional or marketing use under any circumstances.

We share mobile phone numbers only with our SMS delivery service provider (Twilio) solely for the technical purpose of transmitting the SMS messages you have opted in to receive. Twilio is contractually obligated to handle this information in accordance with its own privacy and security obligations and is not permitted to use phone numbers for any other purpose.

SMS consent and opt-out:

By providing your mobile phone number and explicitly checking the SMS consent checkbox during account registration, or by separately authorizing your enrolled flight school or maintenance school to enroll you, you consent to receive recurring automated text messages from E3 Sky Path. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any SMS message, or by updating your notification preferences in your account settings. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. For SMS Program details, including help and opt-out keywords, see our Terms of Service.

SMS data retention:

Mobile phone numbers, SMS opt-in timestamps, and SMS delivery logs are retained for as long as your account is active, plus an additional period to comply with applicable record-keeping obligations and to handle disputes or regulatory inquiries. Specifically, SMS delivery logs are retained for seven (7) years to align with our FAA training record retention obligations.

How we share your information

We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers: We share information with trusted third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including payment processing (Stripe), email delivery (SendGrid), SMS delivery (Twilio), document storage (Cloudflare R2), AI-powered features (Anthropic), customer support tools, analytics providers, and similar operational services. These providers are contractually obligated to handle your information solely for the services they perform for us and in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

Within E3 Association: If you are a member of multiple E3 Association programs (e.g., E3 Aviation AND E3 OffRoad), your account information may be shared across those programs to provide a unified experience.

Flight school relationship (E3 Sky Path members): If you are enrolled as a student at a flight school or aviation maintenance school that uses E3 Sky Path, your training records, lesson history, certifications, and related information are visible to your enrolled school and its authorized personnel (instructors, school administrators) as required to deliver your training. This is essential to the educational relationship.

Legal obligations: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, subpoena, or governmental request (including FAA, TSA, or other regulatory bodies), or to protect our legal rights, prevent fraud, or address security or technical issues.

Business transfers: If E3 Association is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

With your consent: We may share information with your explicit consent for purposes not described in this policy.

How we protect your information

We take the security of your personal information seriously and use industry-standard safeguards, including:

  • SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers (we use HTTPS across all E3 Association websites and applications)
  • Encryption at rest for sensitive information, including payment card details (stored only by our PCI-compliant payment processor) and certain personally identifiable information
  • Regular security scanning for known vulnerabilities and malware
  • Access controls limiting employee and contractor access to personal information based on job function
  • Audit logging of access to sensitive systems
  • Secure password storage (passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms; we cannot see your plaintext password)
  • Regular backups with encrypted storage

While we work hard to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
